For many many many years, I cyber wrestled or role played on yahoo Messenger. I met alot of cool people there. Were they all who they said they were? Meh who knows BUT I was talking about seeing women defeated there for years. It was a blast. Hell some people i talked to on the phone, met in real life. It was amazing.
And it's slowed down but every now and then I would log on. Truth be told I hadn't cyber wrestled or roleplayed since 2010 but every now and then a cool person would log on and we'd talk. Hell just the other day I had a little writing session with dawn meadows.
Until today. Yahoo asked me to upgrade and i did....and the new update is truly truly awful.
YOU CAN'T SEE WHEN ANYONE IS ONLINE.
That breaks the casual fun of the whole thing. the whole point of yahoo is somebody you roleplayed with in 2008 logs on you two catch up then you say goodnight. I'm not just gonna blindly message all my contacts in the hopes that one day one hits me back. Some of these people log on once every few months. Also...there goes the random message you'd get from a newbie who wants to talk peril. They don't know if I'm online either.
See with facebook, twitter, alot of the animosity of the net is gone. That's fine. But the cool thing about AIM or Yahoo messenger is you could still keep that going and bond over strange shit you'd never bond over irl. You'd find each other in yahoo groups or through other opponents and talk about why mixed wrestling or superheroine role play was fun.
Well that's gone. Yahoo Messenger is broken. Sad day to say the least....
Anyone else have fond memories of chatting on there?
